Amid the growing controversy surrounding the blatant disrespect to our national anthem, fans across the nation have made their peace known with many of them calling on their favorite brands to boycott sponsorships for the NFL. A major sponsor is beer-brewing giant Anheuser-Busch and on September 29, their customer line completely inundated with calls from Americans around the nation asking them to teach the NFL a much needed lesson.
“RockltNews” posted on their Facebook page encouraging the customers to call Budweiser, whose parent company is Anheuser-Busch, and so many people did call that several couldn’t get through because the phone lines were crushed.
“Should Budweiser keep sponsoring the NFL? Let them know how you feel! Call 1-800-DIAL BUD (342-5283) and press 1 for their stand on the NFL and then leave a message. Takes less than a minute,” the post read.
The company got more calls than they could handle and many customers that called in got a busy signal. The director of marketing communications Matt Kohan, said the company has no plans to end their sponsorship.
“We have many long-term sports partnerships, including our NFL sponsorship, and while we may not agree on everything, we still believe in the power of sport to bring people together and overcome their differences,” Kohan said.
Despite the beer-giants commitment to stick with the NFL, 24% of Americans have announced that intend to boycott the NFL’s games, products, broadcasts and other things related to NFL as a result of players kneeling for our national anthem. This weekend the NFL is now entering the 5th week of the season and companies need to do something to end this stupidity seeing how many Americans are already showing their disapproval.
